Skullgirls 2nd Encore finally released today on the Nintendo Switch! Following its formal announcement last year on July 6th 2018, it was later confirmed by publisher Skybound Games that there would be pre-orders for a limited edition physical copy of the game.
Previously scheduled to launch sometime in Spring, customers who pre-ordered the game were informed via email that the release would be delayed until late Summer/early Fall due to a "production hiccup". In October, an additional email was sent out confirming an October 22nd launch date for the digital Nintendo eShop release. Those who purchased the Limited Edition will have their order shipped out next week, which now includes a digital download code for the game due to the physical cartridge being delayed until December (which will be shipped out separately).
Nintendo Switch version additions:
The Nintendo Switch version of the game includes new introduction animations that were previously exclusive to Skullgirls Mobile! This marks the first time new animations have been added to the game since the Skullgirls 2nd Encore+ update. So far, only Double and Beowulf have been confirmed to have received additional intro animations; however it can also be assumed that Squigly will have them as well since she is the only other character to have Mobile animations that aren't already in Skullgirls 2nd Encore+.
Since then, Skullgirls Mobile has had several updates that include new animations for Double, Squigly and Beowulf. As of yet, we can not confirm if all 3 of these characters' animations are included in the Switch version, but considering both Beowulf and Double have been confirmed at this time, Squigly is likely.
Despite this additional perk, the Switch release has also been reported for several issues. These include problems with the character voice audio (including the lack of a Voiced Story mode) and certain color palletes being locked errorlessly. Skybound Games are aware of the bugs reported and are working with the Lab Zero Games now and promise an update as soon as they can.
It should also be noted that the Xbox One version of the game, originally reported to release digitally alongside the Switch version, has been "postponed indefinitely due to unforeseen development and production challenges" as stated by Skybound Games.
