Juju is a character that was considered as downloadable content in the Keep Skullgirls Growing! Indiegogo campaign. She would have been the sniper for the Black Egrets. She also went by the codename of Number 13, a reference to her sniper rifle Gorgon 13 which contains a built in headset and receiver through which she can communicate with Parasoul.

History[]

Juju idea

The original idea.

Juju's original idea was not from Reverge Labs (back then, the Skullgirls developers), but rather of a fan who posted the idea on Skullgirls official Facebook page before the game's release.[1][2] Noticed by the team, the character ended up being sketched on whiteboards by Jonathan "Persona" Kim for humorous effect.[3][4] Eventually becoming warmly accepted by Reverge, she was put into the game proper and referenced in Parasoul's Tutorial mode and a rare voice line in her Silent Scope Blockbuster; Parasoul would call her name ("Take the shot, Juju!") instead of her codename.

Eventually, this caught the eye of the original fan, who allegedly wanted compensation for his role in Juju's creation.[5] This began a months-long dispute between the new studio formed by the developers, Lab Zero Games, and the fan, which lasted into the character-funding donation drive of the Keep Skullgirls Growing Indiegogo campaign. While Juju was on the list of characters up for vote initially, being the 25th character revealed at $500,000, it soon became clear that the legal issues would not subside before the vote began, so she was disqualified from the vote.

Ultimately, Juju's fate was sealed when the overeager fan posted information about their dealings with Lab Zero on the official Skullheart forum soon after,[6] breaking a signed non-disclosure agreement. As a result, Lab Zero removed all references to Juju in Skullgirls, retconning her existence entirely.[7]

Interestingly enough, Juju was given a slight cameo in the description for the Sheltered variant of Parasoul in Skullgirls Mobile, where it said "Take the shot, Juju." However, this appeared to be a mistake by the developers, as a later update patched this quote to remove any reference to Juju.

Keep Skullgirls Growing campaign profile[]

The following information was posted on the character profile page of the Indiegogo Keep Skullgirls Growing campaign,[8] before Juju was disqualified from the vote.

Character description[]

The Black Egret sniper is so rarely seen or heard, any description of her is considered a wild rumor. The few who spot her doubt their eyes long enough to be caught in the scope of her “talking” gun, Gorgon 13. Will the current conflict bring her out in the open?

Playstyle Speculation[]

Take the shot!

Juju’s powerful sniper rifle is integrated in her play style for single, powerful, tricky shots. She can pull off complicated ricochet shots and would be able to load her gun with different kinds of ammo for special hits. It would be ideal to reward a sense of accuracy to these deadly attacks, perhaps similar to the Clean Hits in Guilty Gear. There could be some sort of targeting, trip-wire, and/or aiming mechanism involved in some of her moves.

Parasoul could return the favor here, offering literal cover fire in the form of napalm tears raining down from off screen. Juju could fire at these planted napalm tears, causing an intense, fiery chain reaction.

The size of her rifle would let it double as a staff for far-reaching melee attacks. She would also have the traditional arsenal of military weapons on hand for close range combat, such as grenades, a handgun, and a combat knife.
